Sir Stuart Rose, Chairman of Business in the Community, addresses the 2009 AGM

In his Business in the Community AGM address on Thursday 3 December 2009, Sir Stuart Rose, Chairman of BITC and Executive Chairman of Marks & Spencer, stressed that the scale of the challenge to meet the urgent demands to improve UK skills, nurture talent and combat climate change could only be met through the collaborative action of the UKs business leaders, large and small.

Reminding the assembled leaders of the two biggest challenges facing business – the sustainable use of our planets resources to tackle climate change and the talent and skills deficit – he said that these issues not only require a commitment to act, but a commitment to work together in ways not seen in the past – collaboratively – if the UK is to achieve anything like the scale of impact needed.
